The Ada City School District would like to make parents aware of child find opportunities available to all children who are suspected of having a disability and who may be need of special education and related services. The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) states, All children with disabilities residing in the State, including children with disabilities who are homeless children or are wards of the State, and children with disabilities attending private schools, regardless of the severity of their disability, and who are in need of special education and related services, are identified, located, and evaluated.
Special education and related services are provided free of charge to children (ages 3 years through 21 years) with disabilities by the child's district of residence. Adult Education and Literacy Programs offered in Pontotoc County are equipping adults for the future. The following classes are provided by the Ada Adult Learning Center at various sites throughout the community:
Adult Literacy classes are provided for adults who need basic skills instruction in reading, writing, mathematics, life skills, job readiness and GED preparation.
Family Literacy classes offer adult education and effective parenting skills.
Work based classes are customized, job specific instructional programs for adults who are employed by a business who has partnered with adult education to provide job specific instruction.
English as a Second Language (ESL/Civics) classes provide limited English speaking adults an opportunity to learn both spoken and written communication and survival skills. Citizenship classes are provided to assist any non-citizen who wishes to make application for citizenship.
